Referrals and Process

Referrals are usually made by parents or carers, but I also accept referrals from schools and other agencies.  For children and young people under 18, I do not take direct referrals—but I’m happy to speak with them about how therapy might be accessed and what it may involve.Once a decision is made to begin therapy, the process unfolds as follows:

• Initial Parent Meeting  A meeting with parent(s) or carers to gather consent, explore concerns, and understand the child’s background. Consent is required from all individuals with parental responsibility.

• Assessment Sessions  The first 3 to 4 sessions focus on building trust and gently exploring the nature of the child’s difficulties. This phase allows for a deeper understanding of emotional, relational, and developmental needs.

• Parent Review  After the assessment phase, I meet with parent(s) to reflect on what has emerged and to agree on therapeutic aims. Ongoing reviews are arranged to monitor progress and adjust support as needed.

• Ending Therapy The ending of therapy is a collaborative decision, shaped by regular feedback and reflection. A final meeting or call with parent(s) is offered to share observations, strategies, and resources that may continue to support the child’s journey. evidence-based treatments that have been proven to be effective for depression.
